As I get ready to graduate this summer, I have been thinking a lot about my time at UCCS and what has mattered most to me. I can easily say that being employed at GOCA has been integral to my experience going to school here. Doing hands-on work with artists in the gallery, networking with curators, and being nominated to serve as a member of the advisory board are all examples of how my time with GOCA helped me grow in ways I never expected to experience while still in undergrad. The most invaluable asset that I have gained during my time as a gallery assistant, however, has been the mentorship that Joy and Lynné have provided me. Knowing that they both came from a studio background and now work professionally within a gallery setting is very inspiring to me. Reflecting on my time at GOCA, I recognize how crucial it was in shaping both my personal and professional journey. The hands-on experience, coupled with the mentorship I received from Joy Armstrong, Lynné Bowman-Cravens, Claire Swinford, and David Siegel, opened doors to countless opportunities. These experiences were pivotal in leading me to my internship at Green Box Arts, an organization dedicated to community engagement in the arts, which solidified my commitment to arts nonprofits. It was at Green Box Arts that I further developed essential administrative and management skills, which ultimately guided me to my current position at Anderson Ranch Arts Center—an institution I had admired during my time at GOCA. I am certain that without the foundation I built at GOCA, I would not be where I am today.
