Visual and Performing Arts

The Department of Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) was founded with the mission of engaging students in scholarly and creative work in the programs of History of Art & Visual Culture, Film and Screen Studies, Museum Studies and Gallery Practice, Music, Theatre & Dance, and Visual Art. Through the integration of all VAPA programs, students receive a strong and holistic interdisciplinary arts education that prepares them for an abundant future.

UCCS stands out as an institution with a novel offering to students in the visual and performing arts. Young artists receive cutting edge education and training in their fields of specialization while also benefiting from a departmental structure that allows them to articulate their interests and skills through a variety of artistic approaches backed by a strong interdisciplinary curriculum.

In VAPA, students have opportunities to participate in professional performances and exhibits and to produce their own creative works. Students participate in multidisciplinary arts festivals where classmates from across programs work together. These intersections allow our students to generate ideas that simply wouldn’t happen in more isolated programs. By contributing to the VAPA support fund, you are directly supporting the journey of young UCCS artists as they refine their craft and discover new arenas in which to create, play, and perform.
